Events & Activities

We aim to provide our children with a stimulating and fun environment which often means welcoming visitors to the Pre School and also exploring the outside world. Some of these activities include:

Outside Play: This is very important to us and each day our children will play in our garden area where we have a mud kitchen, sand, water, messy play as well as planting and gardening. We are lucky to be situated very near to the village park, so often we will walk to use its play facilities, exploring our outside environment as we go.

Visits to Whissendine C of E Primary School: Once a week we walk to the local primary school and join the Foundation Class in their outside play area. We have a very close relationship with the Foundation Class teaching staff and frequently organise other activities with them.

Yoga: Once a month we have a visit from Emma Ansell - Zest Yoga for Childen.  She comes in and leads a yoga session teaching the children all about their breathing and encouraging movement that improves their balance and co-odination.

Forest School: Once a month our children visit Little Dalby woodlands and have the opportunity to experience the natural environment and learn new skills such as den building and being safe around an open fire whilst toasting marshmallows.  Although this has been on hold during the Covid-19 Pandemic we are hoping that we will be able to resume at some point in the future.

Local attractions: To support our learning we provide trips to local places such as the castle, library, museum, firestation and a walk around Oakham Market.

Special events: We regularly organise special events to support charitable days such as Children in Need or Comic Relief, having fancy dress says or cake baking sessions with the children.

Library van: To support our children in developing a love of stories and reading, the Rutland Library Van visits us every fortnight. All the children  attending Pre School that day have the opportunity to go aboard the van and select a book to take back to Pre School.

Church visits: We are lucky to have a lovely relationship with our local church. We visit once a month and special times like Easter, Harvest Festival and Christmas.

Fun Fit and Sports Day: Our Fun Fit sessions happen twice a term and are designed to help with fitness, balance and co-ordination.  These sessions are great fun and allows them to work towards certificates - starting with Bronze and ending with Ultimate. We talk about keeping ourselves healthy with the food we eat and the exercise we take.  Dental hygiene is also of great importance to us.  Our annual sports day is always hugely enjoyable, with children demonstrating their abilities and enthusiasm in front of a supporting family audience.

Nativity Play: This is the an amazing time for the children.  Not only do our children learn and perform together to produce a wonderful Nativity show for their parents and carers, relatives and friends but it is the Preschool's main fundraising event. The Pre School Parents Supporters Committee do a fantastic job organising and supporting this event.  The event is always held on the second Saturday in December which allows all family members and friends to attend.

Summer trip: Each year we organise a full day trip to to local theme park Twin Lakes for the children who are leaving to go to school in the September.  This is paid for by money raised by the Pre School Parents Supporters Committee.

Transition to Primary School: We are proud to have strong links and work very closely with the Ofsted rated Outstanding Whissendine Church of England Primary School. To achieve a smooth transition we help our children to prepare for their next steps with weekly visits to the Foundation Stage play area and other planned activities. This enables children to familiarize themselves with school surroundings and Foundation Class teachers.
